Colin Batin is a senior cinema and media arts major with a marketing minor at Anderson. This summer, Batin had an opportunity with Oak Street Funding in Indianapolis as their marketing intern.

Oak Street Funding specializes in providing commercial financial services and lending solutions.

This internship helped Batin in many ways, specifically with project management. Batin confessed that before this internship, he “barely had anything organized.” He was even gifted Project Management for Dummies on his first day, which he found very amusing. Throughout the internship, he learned how to be organized and manage multiple projects at once.

Batin said that Oak Street Funding is a very welcoming and caring environment. From his first day, he felt cared for by the company, as they cared about his experience and did not treat him as a stereotypical intern who just ran errands.

Batin said they emphasized, “We want you to feel some type of meaning from your work.”

This internship did not just involve doing archival work or running errands, Batin was able to lead a project that involved capturing new content for all of Oak Street Funding. His major coursework allowed him to capture the content of the workers, take new headshots and capture B-Roll footage. He was also the go-to guy for the project, he was in charge of scheduling and executing the plan which Batin shared was exciting to be trusted by his supervisor. .

Batin also shared that his education gave him a leg up and helped him stand out among many other applicants.

“Their initial draw to me was because of my cinema media arts major [because]no one on their team had experience with it,” stated Batin.

When talking about his future, Batin said he has aspirations to one day be a business owner. His current goal is to have a team that makes content for companies and individual celebrations like weddings.. He currently does freelance work, but hopes to make it more focused. As for his future, he is hoping to continue his internship work and move into a full-time position.
