In 2001, Heather Bremer graduated from Anderson University with two Bachelor of Arts degrees in political science and communications. Since then, Bremer worked in various roles of the communications industry before jumping into her current role: communications manager at National Precast Concrete Association. Bremer is well versed in many aspects of communications. From working as a reporter to digital design, Bremer has continually worked to expand her skill set as the industry continues to evolve.
What drew you to digital communication?
Communication wasn’t the route Bremer necessarily planned on taking when first going to college. Bremer’s plan of becoming a doctor quickly changed as she discovered what her skills truly were and where they could make the most impact in a future career. Written work is one of her greatest strengths, and communication only amplifies that. Bremer said, “I just gravitate towards helping others through digital, online or written communication.”
What do you love most about the communication industry?
Bremer loves all the different mediums in communication. Each medium offers a chance to tell someone's story. This allows for more creativity and the ability to reach “all corners of the earth,” explains Bremer.
What is one piece of advice you would give someone looking to work in communications?
This industry is continually evolving and changing. Bremer advises those entering the field to never be afraid to step outside of their box. Throughout her career, Bremer has continually learned new skills that would help her at her current job or down the road. She feels it is important to ask the question, what other skills do I need down the line because the industry is always changing?
How do you balance work life and taking time for yourself?
At the end of the workday, Bremer finds relaxation and fulfillment in coaching. She currently coaches middle school basketball and volleyball. Helping these younger athletes and investing in their lives has become a passion for Bremer.
